THE STORY OF SCIENTIFIC OBSERVERS AT NAMTSO LAKE Crossing over the 5,190-meter-high pass of Mt. Nageng Lha, the landscape in front was magnificently charming, just like a snow and ice-covered land of fairy tales. The lake of Namtso, one of the three biggest holy lakes in the Tibet Autonomous Region, had changed from its ordinary blue-hued picturesque appearance into a terrain of the purest white. Moving forward along the snow-dressed road, we eventually arrived at Namtso Township, where I convened with two assistants collecting data and performing observations at the Namtso Comprehensive Observation Station, which specializes in studies into this highland lake and environmental changes upon upper Namtso. They call where they work Namtso Station. In a span of just a few days, this place encountered a heavier-than-normal snowstorm, which forced tourist venues to temporarily shut down. Following these two observers, we came to the observation station hiding in the depths of Namtso scenic area. The snow was treacherously deep on both sides of the road, which itself had been plowed just one day before our arrival. Otherwise, we would have never hoped to use it...
