Kongpo New Year and Burang New Year

Due to differences in history, geography, climate and solar terms, the time of celebrating the New Year is different in different parts of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The first ones are the Kongpo New Year in Kongpo area (including Bayi District, Mainling  County, Kongpo Gyamda  County of Nyingchi City) and the Burang New Year in Ngari.

During the New Year, everyone dresses in festive costumes and prepares Gutu, Kasai, highland barleywine and other delicacies to celebrate the New Year and entertain relatives and friends, enjoying the joy of harvest and reunion. People sing and dance and hold folk activities such as carrying water, offering barley wine and drawing auspicious patterns.
