The Butter Lamp Festival is celebrated annually to commemorate the master Tsongkhapa, founder of the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

This year’s falls on Dec 7, the 25th day of the 10th month on the Tibetan calendar. On this day, people of the Tibetan ethnic group light butter lamps and pray for happiness and good health.
