Experts hail the release of white paper on China’s policies in Xizang On November 21, a high-level forum on the practice and historic achievements of the CPC’s strategy for governing Xizang in the new era was held in Beijing. Nearly 50 experts and scholars exchanged views on the recently published white paper CPC Policies on the Governance of Xizang in the New Era: Approach and Achievements. “The White Paper provides a comprehensive summary of the all-round progress and historic achievements made by Xizang in various undertakings under the guidance of the Party’s strategy for governing Xizang in the new era, supported by detailed data and numerous facts. Xizang’s economic and social development represents a typical epitome of China’s remarkable accomplishments in construction and development, showcasing the extraordinary human development miracle created by the Chinese path to modernization on the roof of the world.” Chen Zongrong, deputy director-generalof China Tibetology Research Center, stated in his speech that as a Tibetology worker, it is an important responsibility to accurately capture the theoretical and philosophical principles underlying the new Xizang narrative and vividly depict the ordinary yet exceptional people and events in the new Xizang story. Zhang Yun, a second-level researcher at the Institute of History of China Tibetology Research Center, believes that the white paper not only reflects the remarkable achievements made in various undertakings under the guidance of the Party’s strategy for governing Xizang in the new era but also showcases the latest accomplishments in academic research. Academic research has always played a crucial role in supporting the intellectual aspects of Xizang’s work. The formation of the Party’s guidelines for governing Xizang in the new era has presented new requirements for academic research, particularly in Tibetology studies and the establishment of high-level think tanks relevant to Xizang. Tibetologists bear significant responsibilities and missions. “Since 2013, more than 100,000 pieces of various precious cultural relics have been protected in a more scientifically through digital archiving.” “More than 300 ancient Xizang medicine documents have been sorted and successively published, and over 600 volumes of precious ancient texts have been collected”. “Gesar, Xizang opera, Xizang medical bathing methods, and others have been included in the list of representative works of intangible cultural heritage of mankind”…The white paper demonstrates that Xizang’s rich traditional culture is flourishing. Su Faxiang, Dean and Professor of the Institute of Tibetology at Minzu University of China , believes that the Xizang language is widely utilized, ancient Xizang books and documents are preserved and utilized, cultural heritage protection continues to be strengthened, intangible cultural heritage is effectively passed down and protected, and the cultural facilities network is consistently improved, establishing a solid cultural foundation for writing a chapter of modern Xizang with Chinese characteristics. Yang Tao, an associate researcher at the Institute for Socioeconomic Studies of China Tibetology Research Center, believes that from the perspective of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, many indicators in Xizang have reached the forefront or made significant progress. In fact, Xizang is becoming a model region for China to implement the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
