Shopping mall opens in Barkhor Street in Lhasa

On Nov.8 the Barkhor Street Shopping Mall opens its first business in Lhasa,making more than 3,000 street vendors say goodbye to their past business life exposed to the bad weather.

It is reported that to provide a more comfortable and happy environment for residents in the old town of Lhasa, the local government has launched the booths relocation project in the old town of Lhasa, which lasted nearly one year. On Nov.6, a draw ceremony was held in Barkhor Street for vendors to choose their own booth in a fair and just way. On Nov.7, 3031 vendors have moved their booths to the shopping mall in Barkhor Street, ending the business life exposed to bad weather.

In order to ensure commercial tenants' interests, the local government has issued the booth relocation implement plan and incentive measures, the latter of which stipulates that commercial tenants can enjoy different preferential policies in three phases after their booths have moved from the old town, including the pre-running phase, the transitory phase and the normal phase.

A tourist from Beijing came to the Barkhor Street on the opening day of the shopping mall specially. He said "I came to Lhasa a few days ago, and I want to by some souvenirs before leaving. It is very convenient here as every booth has a serial number. I can find what I want to buy according to their serial numbers. In addition, I needn't to worry being exposed in the strong sunshine in the noon as I can go shopping in the comfortable mall."

 

Situated near the crossroad of Beijing East Road and Linhor East Road, the Barkhor Street shopping mall is a comprehensive tourism shopping mall composes of selling, circulating and exhibiting special tourism products as well as providing small wares and ethnic food. It will become a tourism shopping paradise in the future.
