Medog County in Nyingchi Prefecture, SW China’s Tibet Autonomous Region plans to keep annual visitors within 15, 000, to guarantee sustainable tourism, according to Tibet Daily report. The report also said that the more than 100 local families will be involved in tourism industry. Medog, meaning "flowers" in Tibetan languge, is believed to be the "lotus sacred land" by Tibetan Buddhists and is also dubbed the "world database of fauna and flora genes". The Medog Highway opened on Oct.31 has unveiled Medog's spectacular scenery to the outside world. From January to July Medog received 290,000 tourists, which took in 6.57 mln yuan revenue, 4.38 mln for farmers and herdsmen, said a report from People's Daily of China. Nyingchi Prefecture is making efforts to improve its ecological environment and has built many ecological counties and townships, according to the White Paper published this year. Tibet Plateau is "the third-cleanest area in the world in terms of its environment," after the South Pole and North Pole, according to the White Paper. |
