Tibet Airlines opens new route from northern China

Tibet Airlines opens new route from northern China
From: CNTV
There's one more way to get to the rooftop of the world. Tibet Airlines has opened a new route from Taiyuan, the capital of north China's Shanxi Province, to Lhasa, with a stopover in Lanzhou, in Gansu Province. Taiyuan joins Beijing and Xi'an as the third provincial capital in north China to offer flights to Lhasa, capital of Tibet Autonomous Region.

The new flight from Taiyuan to Lhasa flies three times a week aboard an Airbus A319, Tibet Airlines' so-called "Plateau Prince". Many passengers say the new route will make their travels much smoother.

"I don't like taking trains. If there wasn't this route, I don't think I'd go to Lhasa."

"I used to fly on business to Xi’an and take another flight to Lhasa. Now it's much more convenient."

The route also opens just in time for the start of the summer vacation period, bringing more tourists to explore the region.

After three hours of flying, plus a fifty minute stopover in Lanzhou, the plane arrived here in Gongga Airport in Lhasa at about nine PM.

Currently, the Tibet Autonomous Region has five airports, operating six airlines to more than twenty destinations across the country.

Cheng Hui, Executive Director, Tibet Airlines, said, "The increasing number of flights to Tibet is of great importance to the social and economic development of the region. It will help more tourists and business travelers come to Tibet."

The local government says they are working so that every provincial capital in China will have a flight to Lhasa by 2015.
