A rewarding ceremony was held to praise 15 volunteer lawyers of the third group of the "1+1" Chinese legal aid volunteers from inland China in the regional Juridical Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region on June 17, 2013 . It is reported that the 15 volunteer lawyers of the group came to the remote poverty-stricken counties of Tibet in 2012 to help the local government and the public to solve legal affairs, overcoming difficulties of high altitude anoxia, language gap and traffic inconveniences. The volunteer lawyers have effectively protected the legitimate rights and interests of the local vulnerable groups, and made a great contribution to social harmony and stability. Over the past year, the 15 volunteer lawyers have handled over 300 legal cases of all kinds, involving disabled people, the elderly, juveniles, migrant workers and other vulnerable groups. They also received and offered legal consulting over 10,000 person-times, helped local people write legal documents more than 2,000 copies, and avoided or saved economic losses over 20 mln yuan for the recipients, playing a positive role in servicing and safeguarding people’s livelihood. |
